Is Social Media Bullshit? · 02/17/2009

At IgniteBoston5, I gave a presentation entitled, “Is Social Media Bullshit?”. I’ve synced up an audio recording of the talk with the slides, and embedded it below.

What do you think?

  1. Good stuff. On slide 9 i would say without a presence you can’t participate, which I think is more important than responding or reacting. A presence allows you to be proactive. And I think social media is more about customer service than branding…though it can function both ways.

  2. Great presentation! Had the same talk with many of my colleagues and also some former clients. All of them don´t understand the need to participate in this medium. So we have to do more presentation like that in order to change the corporate world to the better. VIVA LA REVOLUTION!

  3. Jason, absolutely participating is more useful than just responding; that’s part of the point of the slide before, when talking about the opportunity costs companies incur by not participating. My main point on slide 9 is that at the very least, you want the ability to be able to respond when you need to, even if most of the time you don’t want to talk that much. As for customer service, I’d say good customer service is about branding. :-) Thanks for the comment!

Steffen, glad you liked the presentation. Thanks for commenting!
